QUICK TIP
For best price and quality, select a printer who prints NOTHING BUT BOOKS.

Information needed when requesting quotes:

Trim Size: This is basically the size of the page stated in inches.

  • The trade paperback size can be either 5.5 x 8.5 or 6 x 9
  • The textbook size is 7 x 10
  • The workbook size is 8.5 x 11

Number of Pages: Total number of actual pages. Every page counts as a page whether it is blank or part of the text.

Quantity: Get prices on 500, 1,000, and higher if appropriate. Find out the best price per book for your needs and to compare printing costs among printers.

Stock: The type of paper used. Heavier paper costs more. Acid free paper does not disintegrate easily, so it lasts longer - it costs more than acid treated paper.

Colors: Color pictures are not cost-effective. Using color in the body of your book is not advisable. One exception to this rule: Children’s picture books.

If you see a full-color photograph printed in a magazine or book, it’s four-color process. The term four-color refers to the three process colors of yellow, cyan (blue), and magenta (red) plus black.

Cover / Jacket / Casewrap: A cover is the term used to describe what wraps around a paperback book. Jackets and casewraps are used on hard cover books. The difference is that a jacket can be removed from the book and has flaps. Casewraps are more like a cover in that they wrap the binder board and are not loose like a jacket is.

I strongly urge you to have your cover/jacket/casewrap professionally designed!

Shipping: Save yourself some money by researching the most efficient way to ship your books… printers are printers… they may provide shipping services, but they are not in the shipping business.

More than likely, FedEx or UPS will be your best option for shipping.
